Interview Presentation - help!
I interviewed with this company twice (on phone and in person), then they had me come into the office to observe & ask questions, and today they asked me to come in on Friday to give a 5-10 min. formal business presentation as to why they should hire me.
I am so nervous! I have always been petrified of public speaking, but I feel it's time for me to face my fear. (Plus, I REALLY want this job!!) The position is for a client care/retention specialist. The company would like me to address my core professional abilities and how they will tie into my overall success in this position. They'd like me to reference: Teamwork, Initiative, Flexibility, Ownership, Accountability, Strategic Planning and Time Management, Decisiveness, Innovation, and Professional Conduct. I know it's a lot, but I'd like to be creative and give personal and professional examples. Will you PLEASE help me??? Thanks! |

Apologies for the delay in responding. Tuesday was my 40th birthday and so I took a little time off from the board.
It sounds like this is quite a tall order. The simplest part is really to look at the three core professional abilities that you are best at. Really concentrate the structure of you presentation on these. Do you have feedback from other people on these qualities? It could come from talking with other people, job appraisals, reference letters, even school reports etc. Highlight your strengths and give examples of how you match uo to these strenghts. For example rather than saying "I am good at ownership" give and example e.g. "Once I had to deal with a complex customer problem. The caller had already been passed around the organisation three times. Rather than just transfer the call I decided to.... The result was a delighted customer and ...." If you can work the presentation around this format it should be much more interesting and likely to get the job. Also make sure that you use visual aids. You will be twice as likely to get the job if you use visual aids. I hope that this helps and good luck. Don't forget to drop us a line to let us know how it goes. |

Thanks for the message. I think that one of your first tasks is to get some product knowledge. This may not be as difficult as it sounds. You may be able to chat to one of the sales team to say that you are going for a job in sales and ask if they could tell you a little bit about the product. You could do some research on the web site or you could read through some of the brochures. It may be useful to look round to see what similar products are available in the market. If you can do this then you will come across as more knowledgeable. It should also show soem of your enthusiasm. The next part is to look at three main thoughts that you would like to leave them with. These should be your three main strenghts. You will need to weave stories of these strenghts into the presentation. So if your strenghts are determination and friendly telephone manner. Then as part of the presentation you will need to give some examples. Even better if you can present what other people have said about you -from your colleagues, a customer or a former boss. They seem to have given you the structure. For 30 minutes I would suggest that you make use of visual aids. PowerPoint is a great medium ,but it could be a word document. Whatever it is make sure that you use a lot of pictures in the presentation. I hope that this helps. Please let us know how the preparation is going. Kind regards |
