Printing Animated Slides?

I haven't been able to figure out how to print each step of my animated slides (either a hard copy or a pdf).

For example- I've created slides that use fade-in animation to show a progression of events. The initial slide shows a site plan, then each successive click makes a new element appear, such as a shaded area or an arrow.

When printing/making pdfs of the slides, I'd like to be able to show each step of this process, as it would appear in the presentation. But I haven't been able to figure out an easy way to do this. The slides just print with all of the elements visible and lumped into one frame.

The only thing I've been able to do is to run the presentation and take individual screen captures of each step, pasting these into a word document and printing that. Obviously pretty inefficient.

Any thoughts?

This sounds like a job for the 'capture show add-in'

see
PowerPoint 2002 did away with the ability to print slides with the animations. This add-in is a replacement for that functionality and more. The add-in captures slide builds as you present. You can capture builds into slides of a presentation or as images into a specified folder.
